Become an Advocate for a Community Treasure!
Wednesday, March 15th, may have been Colorado’s Museum Advocacy Day, but that does not mean the mission should only last for 24 hours! The Limon Heritage Society would like YOU to become an advocate for this community treasure through your time, talent, or treasure. Whether you volunteer as a guide, donate any amount to our pledge drive, or even assist with upcoming exhibits, you are serving as an advocate for the Limon Heritage Museum! For more information on how to get involved with the Limon Heritage Museum, please call Mary at (719) 740-0782.
A few weeks ago, the Town of Limon hosted the prestigious Citizen Initiative on Rural Design, whose “workshops bring communities together to craft actionable solutions to their pressing development and design challenges. CIRD is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Project for Public Spaces, and the Orton Family Foundation.” In addition to hosting the event, the town received a $10,000 stipend for preparing the conference, as well as design and technical assistance worth $35,000. During this time, CIRD members from all over enjoyed not only Limon, but the Museum as well, which was a treat for both our guests and Museum volunteers alike. For more information on the Citizen Initiative on Rural Design and their mission, please visit rural-design.org.
Are you looking for a unique way to spend your weekend, support your community, and make new friends? Consider volunteering for the Limon Heritage Society’s 1st 2017 spring workday on Saturday, April 15th beginning at 9 am! Whether you work for an hour or for the entire day, you will be greatly assisting with both the Limon Heritage Museum’s mission and upcoming 26th season. As always, a delicious lunch will be provided to those donating their time. For more information, please contact Mary Andersen at (719) 740-0782.
If you have ever considered purchasing a brick at the Limon Heritage Museum, now is the perfect time! The Limon Heritage Society invites you to make your mark on the future with a personalized brick in the Memorial Plaza and Family Gardens in front of the Museum Exhibit Building. Bricks may be purchased in honor or in memory of a loved one, to remember a business or mark your family brand. Please complete this order form and remit payment to: Limon Heritage Society, P O Box 341, Limon CO 80828. Many friends have placed their names on bricks in the distinctive Memorial Plaza near the Herb Mignery bronze sculpture, “Prairie Odyssey,” at the front of the Exhibit Building. This area is now full. Bricks are now being placed adjacent to the sculpture, in the family pavilion. The memorial bricks are permanent reminders of our Eastern Plains heritage and a way to commemorate loved ones, honor leaders, remember special events, celebrate triumphs, and at the same time support the Limon Heritage Museum. For more information – or to purchase your brick BEFORE April 1st – please call Mary at (719) 740-0782.
